A single guest appearance on MasterChef back in 2009 propelled Adriano Zumbo into stardom and he is now probably considered the most popular pâtissier in Australia. He was, however, a firm favourite here in Sydney years before the TV show with his Balmain opening in 2007. From the moment its doors opened locals were flocking to try his treats.
We love exploring different restaurants, cafes and delis with our children, so after week of rain which looked like it was not going to pause for the weekend, we decided to treat them to a trip to Adriano Zumbo at the Star. I filled them with reports of my earlier visits to Zumbo where I had tasted the best ever soft serve ice-cream (not anything like the McDonald’s variety) and sat at a dessert train a little like their favourite sushi train – but with sweet delights only.
On arrival we were devastated to learn that the train had been closed. No really – devastated…disappointment all around. To make up for this (I had really talked it up) I let them choose the macaroon of their choice and a cake. They chose a Dirty Dani, Mylo Can and a six pack of Zumbarons. Yum Yum and Yum.
With the rain pouring down outside there was no point making a dash to Darling Harbour, and with Star City not offering any child friendly activities we decided to take our delights home to share over a game of cards and board games. One taste and our disappointment decreased a little over the train closure.
